Combat applies to 21 combat specialties

How the AFT is scored

The Army Fitness Test has five events: the 3-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-ups, the sprint-drag-carry, the plank and the 2-mile run. Each event is worth up to 100 points, for a maximum of 500.

There are two standards. The general standard is scored by age and sex and needs at least 60 points in every event and 300 in total. The combat standard applies to soldiers holding one of 21 combat specialties. It uses one sex-neutral, age-normed table and needs at least 60 points in every event and 350 in total.

A result that falls between two lines on the score table earns the points of the lower line. Times are entered as minutes and seconds, like 1:55 or 16:45.

The combat standard applies to these 21 MOSs, regardless of assignment: 11A, 11B, 11C, 11Z, 12A, 12B, 13A, 13F, 18A, 180A, 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E, 18F, 18Z, 19A, 19C, 19D, 19K, 19Z. It took effect January 1, 2026 for the active component and June 1, 2026 for the Army Reserve and National Guard.

Questions

Is the AFT the same as the ACFT?

The AFT replaced the ACFT on June 1, 2025. It dropped the standing power throw and kept five events: deadlift, hand-release push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank and 2-mile run.

What is a passing AFT score?

On the general standard you need at least 60 points in each event and 300 total. On the combat standard you need at least 60 in each event and 350 total.

Does a high AFT score exempt me from body composition?

No. Under Army Directive 2026-13 every soldier must meet the waist-to-height ratio standard regardless of AFT score.
